TL;DR

mail -s "Subject" recipient@mail.server
echo "" | mail -a attachment.file -s "Subject" recipient@mail.server

# send larger files
cat file.txt | mail -s "Subject" recipient@mail.server

# make "email-safe" the contents of a file
uuencode file.txt | mail -s "Subject" recipient@mail.server
